Dear romi, It never ceases to amaze me when I walk into a gas station or convenience store and see the rows and rows of energy drinks that are now on the market. Obviously, we ALL need more energy, but are these energy drinks the right way to do so? I'm sure you know better by now. Why do I continue to harp on energy drinks? Fact is, if you want more than just a quick jolt of energy, then stimulants like caffeine will NEVER help you. They will, in fact, work against you... ...Slowly but surely wearing down your adrenal glands and draining your energy little by little. Yikes! Pretty soon, you'll need even MORE caffeine just to stay awake. That's how your body adapts to stimulants like caffeine. Energy drinks are loaded with caffeine (and often sugar as well). So too is coffee. So, what should you do? Why not try energizing your body by improving the health of your "internal environment"? This is a concept discussed extensively in my colleague Yuri Elkaim's newly released Eating for Energy program... ...Which by the way is 30% OFF until tonight! To get you off to a good start, here are 2 great energizing recipes for you. Try them and see if you don't avoid that inevitable slump that follows when you indulge in high-caffeine drinks... RECIPE #1 Yuri's Natural Gatorade This first energy drink is fantastic on hot days or after sweat-inducing workouts. Mix together 500 ml water (or coconut water) 1-2 tbsp maple syrup, according to taste Juice of 1/2 lemon Juice of 1/2 lime Pinch of sea salt Pour over crushed ice and sip slowly! This is a surefire way to keep you going in the blistering heat or during a workout, while boosting your energy naturally. RECIPE #2 Green 'Cappuccino' Juice, Seriously! A morning without the kick of coffee??? Yes! Give it a try with this super-healthy green juice instead. Think of it as green 'cappuccino'. The alkalizing minerals it provides (ie. calcium, potassium, magnesium) is one of the secrets to all-day energy.
